Delaying Notifications for Existing On-Call Group

Delaying Notifications for an Existing On-Call Group in OnPage

This process shows how to configure a temporary delay for notifications for an existing on-call group in OnPage. During the delay window, alerts are captured but not immediately pushed; instead, they are queued and later delivered as low-priority notifications once the delay period ends.

Step 1: Navigate to the Schedules Calendar

Go to the Schedules section in OnPage.

Open the Calendar view.

Step 2: Select the Target On-Call Group

From the calendar, select the on-call group for which you want to delay notifications.
For this example, choose DevOps on-call.

Step 3: Create a New Delay Schedule

Click Create Schedule to define a new schedule entry.

Enter a descriptive name for the delay, such as Delay Schedule.

Step 4: Configure Delay and Do Not Alert Options

Enable Do Not Alert for this schedule entry.

Make sure to also select Delay Notifications so alerts are queued during this period instead of being sent immediately.

Step 5: Set the Delay Time Window

Specify the start time for the delay period, for example 5:30 PM.

Set the end date to August 21st.

Set the end time to 9:00 AM.

Step 6: Save and Understand the Resulting Behavior

Click Save to apply the delay schedule to the selected on-call group.

During this configured window, alerts will still be captured but notifications will be queued instead of sent immediately.

When the delay period ends, all queued alerts are delivered together as low-priority notifications to whoever is on call, allowing the team to review what occurred without interruptions during the delay window.
