Suppressing OnPage Notifications During a Maintenance Window

Suppressing OnPage Notifications During a Maintenance Window

This process shows how to temporarily suppress notifications during a defined maintenance window by creating a special schedule that prevents alerts from paging on-call users. Once the window ends, normal notification behavior automatically resumes.

Step 1: Open the On-Call Schedule

Open your on-call scheduling page and locate the schedule you want to modify for the maintenance window.

Navigate to the specific schedule you want to update.

For this example, select the “DevOps on-call” schedule.

Step 2: Create a Maintenance Schedule Layer

Create a new schedule on top of the existing schedule that will cover the maintenance period during which notifications should be suppressed.

Click Create schedule to add this new schedule layer.

Step 3: Configure the Schedule to Suppress Notifications

Name the new schedule clearly (for example, “Maintenance – Suppress Notifications”). Select the Do not alert option so that this schedule does not send notifications.

Ensure that Suppress notifications is selected so alerts are not sent during this schedule’s time range.

Step 4: Define the Maintenance Time Window

Set the start and end time for the maintenance period during which alerts should be suppressed. In this example, set the date to August 20th.

Set the start time to 9:00 AM.

Set the end time to 10:00 PM.

Step 5: Save and Apply the Maintenance Schedule

Click Save to create and apply the maintenance schedule with suppressed notifications.

During the defined maintenance period, OnPage will suppress notifications for all associated alerts—no one will be notified when an alert is created or when actions are taken on that alert. After the maintenance window ends, notifications automatically resume following your existing on-call schedule.
